14th International Filmmor Women Film Festival on Wheels starts off with the slogan “Women’s Solidarity Keeps Women Alive” on March 12.
The festival sharing the experiences, productions, and dreams of women via cinema every year will open purple curtain in seven cities during seven weeks, and will screen over 70 movies in 30 languages.
Promising Woman Film-Maker Award goes to Leyla Toprak
Leyla Toprak has been granted Purple Camera Promising Film-Maker Woman Award, which is a solidarity award granted to movies creating space to passive, traditional, non-sexist representations of women, subjectivism, resistance, action and dreams of them, with the movie entitled “Uzak MI…” (Is It Far…).
The movie treats uprising of guerilla women against patriarchy of thousands of years in addition to war in the region.
8th Golden Okra Awards
The Golden Okra Awards emerged as a criticism against reproduction and representation of false myths sexist approaches in cinema of Turkey will be granted 8th times this year.
The Golden Okra Award setting off “with the wish of not being able to find a nominee to grant the award” will be determined by voting of cinema viewers on www.altinbamya.org till March 15. The nominee movies of this year are: Aşk Nerede? En Güzeli, Eski Sevgiliyi Unutmanın 10 Yolu, Kendinol, Kırmızı, Krallar Kulübü, Mucize.
Festival takes place in seven cities
The festival will take place in Pera Museum, Italian Cultural Center, Aynalı Geçit and İstanbul Modern in İstanbul; in Hatay with the partnership of Kadın Emeği Kolektifi (Women Labor Collective) on March 26-27; in Adana with the partnership of Adana Kadın Platformu (Adana Women Platform) on April 2-3; in Bodrum with the partnership of Kadın Dayanışma Derneği (Women Solidarity Foundation) on April 9-10; in Mardin with the partnership of Arîn Kadın Merkezi (Arîn Women Center) on April 16-17; in İzmir with the partnership of İzmir Dayanışma Derneği ve Bağımsız Kadın İnisiyatif (İzmir Solidarity Foundation and Independent Women Initiative) on April 23-24; in Van with the partnership of Van Kadın Derneği (Van Women Foundation) on April 29-30.
