As a response to the parliamentary question of Ayla Akat Ata, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputy at Batman, Bekir Bozdağ, the minister of justice, said 122 convict and prisoner cancer patients were in prison but the data is from two years ago.
Responding Akat Ata’s question on November 8, 2013 after its date expired, the ministry mentioned these:
* There are totally 122 cancer patient convicts and prisoners in correction facilities by May 12, 2012.
13,980 complaints
* The convicts and prisoners in correction facilities, their relatives and various authorities have made 13,980 complaint applications to the ministry since 2002.
* Such complaints generally include allegations about insulting, arbitrary treatment, the blocking of social activities, the violation of telephone and petition rights, indifference to health issues.
* According to judicial and administrative inquiries carried out since 2002 about the staff of correction facilities for violating rights, the court judged disciplinary charge for 9,842 and prosecution for 10,836 of the staff were unnecessary.
* The court rendered a verdict of acquittal for 317 complainers, fined and imprisoned 118 of them, and judged various disciplinary charge for 735 of them.
* No statistical data is found about the places the inquired staff worked, or their distribution to correction facilities. (AS/MEV/BM)
